Other common questions

  • With the Turkey restrictions, do your eSIMs work?

Yes. We aren't affected by the Turkish block on other eSIM providers — you can install and use our eSIMs in Turkey without any issues. Install the eSIM before you travel so everything is ready when you land.

Samsung and some Android phones need the APN set to isp for Turkey plans — see our APN guide and the Turkey guide.

  • Can I use my eSIM data for hotspotting / tethering?

Yes. Every SimplySIM eSIM is hotspot-enabled and use counts towards your allowance. Hotspot is a phone setting rather than something on the eSIM: iPhone Settings › Personal Hotspot, Android Settings › Network & internet › Hotspot & tethering. If it won't start, check the eSIM is the SIM selected for mobile data. Several devices sharing one connection will reduce the speed each one gets.

  • My unlimited plan has slowed right down

Unlimited plans include 1GB of high-speed data per 24 hours. Past that, the destination network reduces the speed under its Fair Usage Policy until the 24-hour window resets. This can feel like the eSIM has stopped working. It's set by the network, not by us, and unlimited plans can't be extended or topped up. For heavy use (video, work calls, hotspotting), a fixed-data plan has no daily cap and can be topped up, which also extends its validity.

  • Does my eSIM have a phone number? Can I call or text with it?

No — our travel eSIMs are data only. Keep your normal SIM switched on for calls and texts (with its own data roaming off), and use the eSIM for data. WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime and similar apps all work over the eSIM's data.

  • How are the days counted?

Your plan starts the first time the eSIM connects to a network in a covered country, and runs continuously from then in full 24-hour blocks — a 7-day plan ends 7 × 24 hours after that first connection, not at midnight on the last day. Installing it at home does not start it, unless your plan also covers the UK.

  • Can I move my eSIM to a new phone?

An eSIM is tied to the phone it was installed on. If it hasn't been activated at your destination yet we may be able to reset it for a new device — pick I deleted my eSIM, or need it on a different phone above and tell us the order number and both phone models.

  • Where's my free SimplyRoam VPN code?

The VPN code is emailed separately after you install an eligible eSIM (unlimited plans, or fixed plans of 5GB and up). Check spam and Promotions, and search your mailbox for SimplyRoam. It's a separate free gift, so it won't affect your eSIM. Full details on the free VPN page.

  • Why does my location show as the USA or another country?

Travel eSIMs route your traffic through the partner network's home gateway, so websites may see an IP address in another country. Your data still works normally; some streaming and banking apps may notice the difference. That's how roaming eSIMs work and isn't a fault.

  • How do I delete my account?

Use the account deletion form. It works even if you no longer have the app installed.

  • Is my phone compatible?

Quick test: dial *#06# in the Phone app. If a 32-digit EID appears, the phone supports eSIM. Most iPhones from XS/XR onwards, Google Pixel 3 onwards and recent Samsung Galaxy models do, but some regional variants don't, and the phone must be carrier-unlocked. Use our device compatibility checker to confirm your exact model.
