About data usage

Different activities consume varying amounts of mobile data. Light browsing and messaging use minimal data, while streaming videos in HD can quickly use 1-3GB per hour.

Data-saving tips

Download maps and music for offline use, reduce video quality in streaming apps, and disable auto-play features to make your data last longer while traveling.

Need more data?

All our eSIMs can be topped up if you need more data during your trip. Simply log into your account and add more data to your existing eSIM in minutes.

Save your travel data

Most travelers don't realize how much data is consumed by background processes.

Hidden data drains

Even when you're not actively using your phone, it could be consuming significant amounts of data through:

  • Automatic app updates: apps downloading new versions (50MB-500MB per update)
  • System updates: phone firmware updates (500MB-4GB)
  • Cloud backups: photos and videos uploading automatically
  • Background app refresh: apps updating content in the background
  • Email sync: constant checking for new emails with attachments

How to stop background data

Follow these steps to maximize your travel data:

  • For iPhone
    1. Go to Settings → App Store
    2. Turn OFF App Updates and Automatic Downloads
    3. Go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh
    4. Turn OFF completely or disable for specific apps
    5. For cloud photos, go to Settings → Photos → disable iCloud Photos or set to "Upload when on Wi-Fi only"
  • For Android
    1. Go to Play Store → Settings → Network Preferences
    2. Set Auto-update apps to "Over Wi-Fi only" or "Don't auto-update"
    3. Go to Settings → Apps → select each app → Mobile data
    4. Disable Background data for non-essential apps
    5. For Google Photos, open the app → Account icon → Photos settings → Back up & sync → disable or set to "Wi-Fi only"
  • Data Saving Mode

    Enable built-in data saving features:

    • iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Low Data Mode
    • Android: Settings → Network & internet → Data Saver

Pro tip: Before traveling, connect to Wi-Fi and manually update your apps and system software. This ensures you have the latest versions without using your travel data.
