A trip around Europe used to be the easy one for UK phones. Now many UK networks charge a daily fee to use your plan abroad, and that adds up for a family or a longer trip. The right Europe eSIM gives you one price and one plan that moves with you across borders.

This guide covers how to choose the best eSIM for Europe, whether you are on a city break or an interrail trip. You can see every plan on our Europe eSIM page.

1. Why Use an eSIM in Europe?

  • One upfront price, rather than a daily fee
  • One plan across several countries
  • Installed at home before you travel
  • Your UK SIM stays on for calls and bank texts

2. Regional Plan or Single Country?

This is the first choice to make. If you are spending your whole holiday in Spain or Italy, a single-country plan can be better value. If your trip crosses a border, a regional plan is simpler, as you do not need a new eSIM at each stop.

Our guide to regional and single-country eSIMs goes into more detail.

3. Which Countries Are Covered?

Coverage is the detail people most often miss, so always check the list on the plan.

  • Our main Europe plans: 34 countries, including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland and Turkey
  • Europe Plus plans: 41 countries, adding places such as Serbia, North Macedonia, Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man
  • Europe and Morocco plans: useful if your trip includes North Africa

4. How Much Does a Europe eSIM Cost?

Prices can change, so check the plan page for today's figure. On our main 34-country plans, as a guide:

  • 1GB for 30 days: under £3
  • 5GB for 30 days: under £12
  • 10GB for 30 days: under £15
  • 20GB for 30 days: under £20
  • 7-day unlimited: under £18
  • 14-day unlimited: under £32
  • 30-day unlimited: under £54

All prices are in pounds, so there are no currency conversion fees on UK cards.

5. How Much Data Do You Need?

  • Weekend city break: 1GB to 3GB
  • One week: 5GB for lighter use, 10GB for heavier use
  • Two weeks or interrail: 10GB to 20GB
  • Streaming, hotspot or working away: unlimited

Not sure how much you need? Try our travel data calculator.

6. How Unlimited Data Works

Our Europe unlimited plans give you 1GB of high-speed data each day. After that you stay connected at a lower speed until the next day. That suits most travellers, but if you need a lot of high-speed data in one sitting, a large fixed plan such as 20GB may suit you better.

7. Which Networks Will You Use?

Regional plans connect to a partner network in each country, with 4G and 5G where available. Partners across the range include Orange, 3, Proximus, Vivacom, Tele2 and Base. Your phone connects as you cross a border, so you do not need to change anything.

8. Setting Up Before You Fly

  • Check your phone on our device compatibility page and make sure it is network-unlocked
  • Buy online and receive your QR code by email
  • Install your eSIM at home on wifi before you travel
  • When you land, switch to your eSIM for data
  • Keep your UK SIM on for calls and bank texts

Our plans are data only, so they do not include a local phone number. Messaging apps keep working over data.

9. Who Should Use a Europe eSIM?

  • Interrailers and multi-city travellers
  • Families who would otherwise pay a daily fee per phone
  • Business travellers moving between countries
  • Anyone who wants one price and no surprises

10. Common Questions

Does it work in the UK? Our main Europe plans list the UK in their coverage, but check the list on your chosen plan.

Is Turkey included? Yes, Turkey is included in both our main Europe plans and Europe Plus plans. If you are only visiting Turkey, compare our Turkey eSIM plans as well.

Can my whole family share one plan? Plans that allow hotspot can share data with other devices, but it uses your allowance faster. On a family trip, it can make more sense for each phone to have its own plan.

Final Thoughts

For most UK travellers, the best eSIM for Europe is a regional plan matched to the length of your trip: 5GB for a lighter week, 10GB for a heavier one, 10GB to 20GB for two weeks, or unlimited for heavy use. Staying in one country? Compare a single-country plan first. Browse our Europe eSIM plans to choose yours.
