Turkey eSIM Restrictions

What’s Changed?

On 10th July 2025, Turkey’s telecom regulator (BTK) issued a ban that blocks access inside Turkey to the websites and apps of some global eSIM providers, including Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Instabridge, Mobimatter, Alosim and BNESIM.

Critics say the move appears aimed at pushing users toward domestic operators like Turkcell, Türk Telekom and Vodafone, which have close ties to government affiliated entities.

Important: This is not a ban on eSIM technology itself. eSIM functionality still works in Turkey, but only if the profile is installed before arriving in the country

Who's Affected?

• Non SimplySIM eSIM customers. We are currently not affected by these new regulations
• Users attempting to purchase or top-up an eSIM while in Turkey: they will find provider websites and apps blocked.
• Tourists or travelers who buy and activate their eSIM before arrival: their profiles generally continue to work until the data or validity period expires .
• Turkish residents traveling abroad: they can no longer buy travel eSIMs from blocked providers while in Turkey and may face higher roaming costs or need to purchase physical SIM cards abroad.
